Book Recommendations
Sunday, January 2, 2005
One of my goals with this web site is to help other people get started with shareware development and/or game development. To that end, I have added a books section to my web site with books I would recommend to shareware and game programmers.
I have put the books into categories. Currently the categories are Shareware Business, Game Programming, C++ Programming and Novels. I'll probably add one or two more categories in the near future.
Although I read a lot of novels, originally I decided not to include them on my web site since they aren't directly related to shareware business or programming. However, after reading The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time by Mark Haddon, I just had to add that book to the list. It's that good. Now that the category is there, I'll probably add some more novels to the list, but my focus remains on shareware and games.
At the moment, every book is accompanied by a short description. About some books on the list I have more to say than just: great book, why don't you buy it? For those books, I'll write an extended review.

Cool idea with the book lists. For game development, have you checked out Game Architecture and Design? It is in its second edition. I have the first edition, and I am not sure if there are any differences that are significant enough to merit me buying it (I should spend some more time at a bookstore).

No, I haven't read Game Architecture and Design. I just looked it up on Amazon. Although it gets some good reviews, I don't think it's what I am looking for right now. The Game Design bit could be interesting, but I don't really care about the Project Management and Architecture sections.
